Costco Refuses to Stock Abortion Pill, Ignoring Activists' Demands

Costco has announced that it will not be selling the abortion pill mifepristone in its over 500 pharmacies across the nation. This decision has been applauded by pro-life activists. Other major retailers, such as Walmart and Kroger, have also refused to sell the drug due to its controversial safety issues.

Costco stated that they’ve made this decision due to a lack of demand from its members and patients, noting that they usually obtain the drug from their medical providers.

The news was received positively by legal organization Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). One of their members called it a “huge win,” and encouraged other companies such as Walgreens and CVS Pharmacy to follow suit.

The safety of mifepristone has become a primary concern in the ongoing abortion debate. In some cases, the drugs fail to expel all fetal tissue, leading to life-threatening complications. A recent analysis found that more than one in 10 women experienced a serious adverse event after taking the mifepristone abortion pill in 2023. These symptoms can include, hemorrhaging, needing a blood transfusion, an emergency room visit, and even life-threatening conditions like sepsis.

Mifepristone is commonly followed by misoprostol, which is designed to end the life of the unborn child and eject it from the woman’s uterus. In June, FDA Commissioner Marty Makary committed to review this drug. This report was first published by the Daily Wire.
