The day when Illinois Gov. Jay Pritzker signed a new law mandating that public colleges and universities provide mifepristone, the abortion drug, to students, a man was reported having used four tablets of the same drug to abort his unborn child without his girlfriend’s consent. He allegedly inserted the pills into her vagina, veering from the drug’s oral administration method and abusing the recommended dosage of one pill. In the eyes of the law, Emerson Evans was charged with two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn child.
Stories of men abusing abortion drugs to kill their unborn children without the mothers’ consent seem to surface at an unsettling rate. This year, a Justice Department IT staffer was charged with killing his unborn child by slipping an abortion drug into his girlfriend’s drink. Recently, a wrongful death lawsuit was filed by a woman who claimed a U.S. Marine captain dissolved multiple misoprostol pills into her drink intending for her to miscarry.
Purchasing these drugs online are made easy with over ten websites listed by a guide to abortion drugs. There’s an increasing concern as more cities and towns are stocking up on these drugs, and abortion advocacy groups continue pushing for their unrestricted access. These groups seem oblivious to the possibility of these drugs falling into the hands of criminals who have nefarious purposes. In reality, these silent killers not only cause physical harm that often needs healthcare intervention but also emotionally destroy women who, against their will, lose their much-wanted unborn children.
Governor Pritzker’s celebration about his newly signed bill rings hollow in light of its potential misuse and harm. Abortion drugs do not fall under the banner of health care, and no woman deserves to undergo an induced abortion against her will.
